The “new” way of Events in Christchurch.

Private Dining Rooms have always been popular with our clients who are after a small space for an intimate or exclusive event.

Now we are finding that with COVID-19 restrictions making events smaller, and our clients wishing to have a more personal and “safe and hygienic place” to dine, Private Dining Rooms have taken on a whole new level of popularity.

So we thought we would check out some of Christchurch’s great offerings for private dining and small intimate gatherings; and here are some of our picks.

Fiddlesticks – located opposite the Art’s Centre and Christchurch Art Gallery, this corner spot has always been home to fantastic dining experiences over the years.  Fiddlesticks has called this place home for the last 9 years – and it still has many items on the menu from day one, including the iconic F.F.C (Fiddlesticks Fried Chicken).  Their private dining area has direct access from the entrance and views over the boulevard, along with a roaring fire in winter.  Catering up to 30 people in the area, it is the perfect spot any time of year.

Riverside Kitchen.jpg

Riverside Kitchen – Riverside Market is a must when visiting Christchurch – it is where the locals enjoy a coffee before work, purchase some produce for dinner in the evening and where to bring the kids on the weekend for a treat.  In the oasis of the second floor, Riverside Kitchen is found.  Private dining here can be as hands on or off as you like – with the cooking school taking inspiration from the produce downstairs in the market, you can help prepare the meal or just sit back with a wine or mocktail and watch…..then it is time to enjoy the meal prepared before your eyes at the long family style table for up to 18 people.

The Residence - is the character home on the ground of the luxury hotel The George.  Offering the charm of yesteryear in classical, elegant surroundings, the peaceful garden in the middle of the city is perfect for pre-dinner drinks before moving through for dinner created by the award-winning culinary team.  Dinner is served in the dining room for up to 18 people; with post dinner drinks of port and cheese served in the lounge area.

OGB Parlour.JPG

O.G.B. – housed in the heritage Old Government Buildings in Cathedral Square, O.G.B. has won Christchurch’s “Best Bar” for the past four years. To find the Parlour Cocktail Lounge, you must visit the main speakeasy styled venue and find the secret bookcase to gain entrance to your private dining room.  With some of the best curated cocktails in New Zealand to accompany canapés before dinner – this spot is perfect for a secret gathering of like minded people.

Craft Embassy - specialises in craft beers from throughout New Zealand with over 30 on tap; and for the non hoppy drinkers there is also a substantial selection of wines on offer.  Situated upstairs along The Terrace, Craft Embassy’s heated glazed pavilion can host up to 50 people for casual dining.  With large high rise tables it is perfect for sharing plates as well as their fabulous beef or pork belly.  The venue also has its own private balcony, bathrooms and big screen for all those important sports fixtures, as well as a portable bar set up it is the perfect spot - in the sun for a great get together.

Hugh’s Whisky Library – is a cheeky little PDR found at Bloody Mary’s Bar Lounge and Grill.  Famed for their steaks, Bloody Mary’s experience is like no other in Christchurch. Focusing on local produce, there is something for every guest (even non meat eaters).  A popular option served in Hugh’s is their Canterbury Feast that can cater for up to 30 people in the room.
